Maria was born in Moscow in 1982, and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She received her BFA in Photography from SVA in 2008. In 2009 she attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has been living in New York since 2004.

Trained as a photographer,my practice has expanded to variety of mediums, through which I thoroughly thread a concept. My artistic practice lies in the interest of social injustice, and personal experience. Through video and photography, I confront issues such as race, identity and class.
