Mike Crane

Artist Website

Mike Crane is an artist based in New York. His work was most recently exhibited at the Bronx Museum Biennial, the Berlinale Forum Expanded and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin. In 2015, Crane was an artist in residence at the Triangle Arts Association in Brooklyn and the Rupert Centre in Vilnius, Lithuania. He is a recipient of the 2014 apexart franchise award and a 2015 Creative Capital visual arts grant. Crane is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art.

Crane uses a range of production techniques to represent the breakdown of materials as they pass through social, geographic and economic mediums of exchange. In his most recent moving-image works, he stages procedural fictions that incorporate the spaces and employees who manage these exchanges. By using formal methods associated with realism–be they from movements in art, television, cinema or journalism–he reconstructs observed technical procedures that are restaged, documented and displayed in built structures or among assembled artifacts.
