Smack Mellon presents the latest sounds by new musicians every first Thursday of the month along with a beer tasting courtesy of Kelso of Brooklyn. The Press Play concert series is held in conjunction with the Dumbo First Thursday Gallery Walk.

Blues In Space is both all and nothing you might think, often chaotic and always an intense musical experience. Led by New York City based cellist, Rubin Kodheli, Blues in Space is quickly rising to the forefront of a new avant-rock movement.

What people are saying:

“Rubin Kodheli is a virtuoso. He is a true artist who is passionate about not only pushing the boundaries of his talent, but also exploring new frontiers in music not only as an interpretive artist, but as a creator….”

-Roberta Flack

“Kodheli's playing has been described as ‘Hendrix –like in its smearing vibrato”

-Nate Chinen, Village Voice

“Are Blues in Space a metal band? Art-rock? Avant garde? Yes, all of the above
and more. Bands like Blues in Space make a good battering ram: they destroy
boundaries. It would make as much sense for them to do Bang on a Can as it
would for them to do Ozzfest or for that matter take up residency at a place like Barbes.”

Two Trees Management, in collaboration with participating DUMBO-based galleries, is proud to host an evening of art and culture as part of its series, “First Thursday,” the monthly DUMBO gallery walk.   First Thursday is a festive monthly occasion for visitors to immerse themselves in DUMBO’s extensive art and cultural offerings. Stimulating and fun, participating galleries open their art-filled spaces and celebrate with receptions, live musical performances and artist/curator talks. Neighborhood bars, restaurants and stores join in First Thursday by offering individual promotions and specialties.
