Internships
Smack Mellon has internships available for students studying visual arts, art history and arts administration. We offer the unique opportunity to learn about running a non profit organization with a gallery and an artists studio program. Because we are a smaller organization, interns will have the chance to learn through direct contact with the Executive Director, Development Director, Program staff, artists and curators.
Involvement
Interns will be involved with the following:
• Organizing and cataloguing artists’ submissions and slides
• Scanning and labeling slides of past exhibitions to be included in the archive
• Updating the mailing list
• Sending out mailings
• Running errands and other administrative duties
• Exhibition installations, painting walls and other physical aspects involved in maintaining the gallery and artists’ studios
• Special events and openings
Applicants
We are looking for those with a good attitude who are hardworking and energetic. Mac proficient in Word and Photoshop is desired and knowledge of other programs is a plus. Any installation or fabricating experience is also a plus.
Commitment
We are open Wednesday through Sunday and require a once a week commitment from 2-6 months. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Stipend
There is no stipend available. Most colleges offer credit for internships. Ask your advisor.
