Smack Mellon is currently accepting proposals that consider the unusual architecture of the gallery space for an exhibition featuring site-specific projects. If you have applied in the last eight months with a site specific proposal for any other program please do not reapply. Those proposals will be considered for this show as well.

Postmark deadline is August 15, 2010. The gallery will be closed on the weekend.

Proposals should contain the following:

1. 10 to 20 Images
Images of still artwork should be submitted digitally. Please save them as JPGs only, 1000 pixels on any side at 72 dpi. Disc should be labeled with your name. Please number each JPG file to correspond to the image list.

DVD format video segment should be no longer than 5 minutes and cued to the appropriate segment for the panel to view. Only moving images, ie. time based media, video art or documentation of performance art, should be submitted on DVD. For DVDs containing several pieces, please make each piece a chapter on the DVD for easier viewing.

For JPGS: The numbers on the image list should correspond with the numbers on the file names of JPGs. Include the title, date, medium, dimensions, and a brief description of the work.

For Video: Include title, date, and a brief description of the work.

Please include your name, address, phone number and email address along with exhibition and educational background.

Artists may also include an artist's statement detailing more about a specific project or their work overall. This should be no longer than one page.

5. SASE
Please send a SASE with sufficient postage for the return of your materials. Drop offs are welcome but pick ups are not so all packages must include a SASE. Material sent without an SASE will not be returned. Please send all materials by US Mail only. Do not send packages larger than 15" x 22".

6. PROJECT STATEMENT with a description of the work and an explanation of the idea and how the work relates to the space.

7. A DRAWING of the proposed project.

Artists involved in exhibitions are responsible for the execution and installation of their own artwork. Artists should understand that they are responsible for delivering their work to the gallery, installing and de-installing their work. Smack Mellon does not have a full time staff of preparators. Smack Mellon staff can assist in installation of work requiring a scissor lift or special mounting, when arranged in advance. Our part time staff may also assist artists with installation of other complicated projects but will not be involved in helping artists to build their work on site.

Specifics about the installation of artwork and the equipment and resources that Smack Mellon is able to provide will be discussed after the initial proposal has been reviewed and accepted as a proposal under consideration.
