RESPOND 2020: A Platform for Artists

Smack Mellon stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, protesters, and those who are confronting systemic racism and injustice.

In the way that we presented the RESPOND exhibition in 2015, we are now going to share our platform on Instagram with artists’ responses to the current events. If you have made artwork in response to the Black Lives Matter protests, if you see protest signs, or if you see activist artwork on your feed, then share your images by tagging us in your posts (@smackmellon). This platform will be used to present artwork and images that affirm that black lives matter, express frustration and anger with the institutional racism that enables law enforcement to kill black members of the community with impunity, and imagine creative solutions and visionary alternatives to a broken justice system. We will be posting a selection of images each day for one week beginning June 8, 2020.

We look forward to sharing our platform with you.
